If a Pixel phone is set to show a screen saver while charging, pressing the Power button is not the same as allowing the display to time out. The first action turns the display off manually, so the screen saver may not appear. To see it, leave the phone charging and let the screen reach its normal display timeout.
What the two actions do
The screen saver is configured in Settings > Display and touch > Screen saver. Its available charging conditions are selected there. When those conditions are met, the saver starts after the display times out. A manual Power-button press instead ends the active display session immediately; it does not begin the saver.
The relevant wait is the phone's display timeout, not a remote app or server countdown.

Confirm that the screen saver is enabled and that its charging condition matches how the phone is connected. Then begin charging, stop interacting with the display, and allow the selected screen timeout to pass. If you press Power during that interval, repeat the test without pressing it. Menu names and steps can vary by device or Android version, with some instructions applying from Android 14 onwards.
