An Android widget without resize handles may not support resizing

On an Android home screen, the absence of resize handles can simply mean that the widget does not support resizing. It does not, by itself, show that the app is damaged. A useful distinction is whether you are adjusting the small home-screen panel or changing text inside the app after opening it.

Hypothetical comparison: Widget A and Widget B

Hypothetical example: An adult places two information widgets beside each other. Widget A displays small outlined dots at its sides after being touched and held. The adult drags a dot to make the panel wider, then taps outside it to finish. This changes the space used by Widget A on the home screen.

Widget B has no resize handles. The conclusion is limited: Widget B may not be resizeable. The missing handles do not prove that its app is corrupted, that the installation failed, or that the account needs to be reset. Checking the widget’s available options or the app’s help information is more relevant than uninstalling it.

How to check the widget surface

Touch and hold the widget, then lift your finger. If resizeable controls are available, outlined dots should appear around it; drag those controls and tap outside the widget when finished. These are Android’s documented home-screen steps, although menus and gestures can vary by device and Android version. Not every widget supports resizing. Android Help: Resize widgets

A useful comparison records whether handles appeared on each widget under the same gesture. Do not report a failed resize unless there was an available resize control to use.

What resizing does not change

Making Widget A wider changes its home-screen footprint. This gesture is not evidence that the publisher edited its text or changed the information being displayed. Opening either widget’s app is a separate action. There, text size, layout, or display controls—if provided—belong to the app or device settings, not to the widget’s resize gesture.
