A dimmed app icon is not proof that an app was deleted. Before blaming an account or an online service, compare the phone's saved usage limit with what happened when the icon changed. A local timer and a provider's account decision are different things.
The documented timer behaviour
Google describes a Digital Wellbeing timer that closes an app and dims its icon when its daily allowance expires. The allowance renews at midnight. Availability varies by device and account. See Android's Digital Wellbeing guide.
One allowance, several visits
Hypothetical example: An adult chooses a thirty-minute daily limit for a puzzle app. The phone records ten minutes during lunch and twenty minutes later. Those visits add up to thirty minutes. The adult remembers only the latest twenty-minute visit and thinks ten minutes should remain, but the earlier visit also belongs to the same day's allowance.
When the app closes and its icon dims at that point, the saved limit explains the observation without inventing a service outage. Nothing in the arithmetic says that the app was uninstalled, that the person's account was banned, or that everyone using the app lost access. These are invented durations, not a claim about anybody's actual phone.
Inspect without moving the limit
In Settings, open Digital Wellbeing, then App timers, and inspect the app's allowance. For today's recorded usage, return to Digital Wellbeing and tap its chart, then the listed app. Labels can vary by device. Compare both records without saving a larger allowance: changing the limit would defeat the planned break.
If no matching timer exists, leave the explanation unresolved. An icon alone cannot identify every possible cause. Keep any separate error wording distinct from the usage record rather than combining both into an unsupported account diagnosis. A useful note names the app, the recorded allowance, the recorded usage and the displayed message, without passwords or private account details.
